Ghostkeys desktop app Human typing in every program on your computer.
The extension types into the web. The desktop app types into everything else: Word, Pages, Notes, VS Code, Slack, any window with a text cursor. Same speed ranges, typos, retyped words and thinking pauses, sent as real key presses.

How it works
If you’ve used the extension, you already know the app: it’s the same panel.
Install and sign in
Download the app for your system and sign in with the same email and password you use on this site.
Paste your text
Paste into the box. Bold, italics and paragraph gaps from Google Docs, Word or ChatGPT come along. Set the speed, typos and pauses on the sliders.
Press Start, then click in
A short countdown starts. Click into Word, Notes or whatever you're writing in, right where the text should go.
Let it type
A small floating bar shows progress. Click its ✕ or press ⌥⇧S (Alt+Shift+S) anywhere to stop. Click back into Ghostkeys and it pauses.
What’s going on under the hood
Real key presses
Letters and spaces go in as real keystrokes, Shift included for capitals. Punctuation and symbols go in as text, so they come out right on any keyboard layout.
The extension's timing
The same engine as the extension: speed that drifts within your range, quicker common letter pairs, typos that get noticed and fixed, synonyms swapped back, thinking pauses between sentences.
AI revisions and Humanize
Draft-then-fix revisions and the Humanize rewrite run through your account, exactly as in the extension, and count toward the same weekly allowance.
Formatting, when you want it
Turn on Keep formatting and bold, italics and underline are switched with ⌘B / ⌘I / ⌘U (Ctrl on Windows). It's off by default, because in code editors those shortcuts do other things.
Pauses for you
Keystrokes only go out while another app has focus. Switch back to Ghostkeys and typing waits; click back into your document and it carries on.
Always up to date
The app checks this site for new versions, installs them in the background and asks you to restart. Every update is signed; the app refuses one that isn't.
First-time setup
A minute, once. After that the app keeps itself up to date.
macOS
- Open the .dmg and drag Ghostkeys into Applications.
- If macOS won't open it the first time, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
- Press Start once: macOS asks to let Ghostkeys control your computer. Turn it on under Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then press Start again.
Windows
- Run the -setup.exe installer.
- If SmartScreen says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway.
- Open Ghostkeys from the Start menu and sign in. No extra permissions needed.
Linux
- Make the AppImage executable (chmod +x Ghostkeys_*.AppImage) and run it.
- Typing works in X11 sessions; some Wayland desktops block programs from sending key presses.
